above left - asparagus as of 5/16, apples (yes, we have 2 trees right now) and surprise! a few pears that showed up this year. Membership 2010 As you can see below we're approved for the Certified Naturally Grown (CNG) program so I am looking for people to do inspections. Farm members in groups of 3 can do an inspection so please let me know if you are interested - you'll learn alot about the farm by doing one.
Welcome to Aunt Sue's Barn!!
(Updated July 27, 2010)
Aunt Sue’s Barn is a 10 acre CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) farm located on the Denton/
Aunt Sue’s Barn is a doorway to the agricultural experience. As a farm member, you can bring the kids, pick your own berries, and enjoy a family excursion. Be sure to bring some sunscreen – berries grow best in full sun and if you're picking in an evennig you may need an insect repellant.

The pictures above are the lady bug hatching May 16th all around the perimeter of the barn and in the grasses everywhere. Next, the squash patch May 31st and then we have watermelons! The first melons were picked July 24th adn they;re delicious!
Those red berries you see pictured here are Wyeberry - a cross between a blackberry and a raspberry. They have the physical characteristics of a blackberry but taste like a raspberry - wonderful flavor. Those little black berries in the basket are a black raspberry just picked and they have an incredible soft, subtle favor. This was the first year of production for those plants but the growth already for next year's crop looks great. We are planning to buy more of these plants for the winter expansion.
.
The hundreds of red raspberries - pictured above in the banner of the page, should be starting to ripen also mid June. The fall yellow berries have quadrupled in number and are double the height from last year. We're expecting a good crop of those later this year also.
TWU is coming back August 25th to help with a variety of summer end tasks. It's always nice to have them out; they provide a greta service to this farm!

Membership includes the produce you pick, access to several workshops planned for next year - irrigation, birdhouse gourds and hypertufa pots (material costs may apply). As a member you will be invited to observe the rainwater harvesting installation.
Full members will be limited for 2010. We have so many berries that we have opened the membership to people who are on the waiting list as of last week. Nice to have abundance!
The hoophouse and greenhouse class was a huge success. We put up several small systems, assembled the large structure and built a small irrigation system. Here's the frame after being attached to the inground pipes; the shade cloth and plastic to be applied next year.
